About CO2 emissions 2020
3% of all man-made CO2 emissions come from international mechant shipping!
As shown bulk carrier is the group with the largest CO2 emissions in 2020 with 440 million tons. As of December 2020, the total dry bulk vessel operating fleet was 12,312 vessels, with a cargo capacity of 912.2 million deadweight tons (dwt), according to Drewry Shipping Consultants Ltd.
Based on a handymax bulk barrier with about 40,000 dwt, this results in CO2 emissions of about 17,800 tons per year and per vessel.
That results in CO2 emissions saving as following:
- 2026 - 17,800 tons/year - 445,000 tons (25 years)
- 2027 - 89,000 tons/year - 2,225,000 tons (25 years)
- 2028 - 166,200 tons/year - 4,005,000 tons (25 years)
- 2023 - 231,400 tons/year - 5,785,000 tons (25 years)
- 2030 - as 2027 and ongoing . . . .
